Do You Have This Evolutionary Wrist Tendon? Here’s How to Check

Even though our bodies seem the same as they did thousands of years ago, slow changes from evolution are still happening. One way to see this is by checking for the palmaris longus tendon in your wrist.

This tendon belongs to a muscle that helped ancestors and some animals move through trees. Ground-dwelling apes like gorillas have lost it, and humans are gradually following the same path.

About 10 to 15 percent of people no longer have this tendon at all.

You can discover if you have it by resting your forearm with the palm up, pressing your pinky and thumb together, and lifting your hand a bit off the surface. If you see a clear band in the middle of your wrist, it’s there. If not, it’s a sign evolution is still shaping us.

Try the test and invite your friends to see who’s carrying this piece of our evolutionary history.
