Little Tommy’s First Confession

Little Tommy’s First Confession

A grandmother took her grandson to church each week. She believed it was important for his spiritual growth. When she thought he was ready, she explained about confession. She told him he would share his mistakes with the priest.

The little boy entered the booth with some nervousness. He told the priest he had taken a pencil from school. He mentioned saying a bad word and not telling his mother the truth. The priest listened patiently to each small admission.

Then the child remembered more actions he needed to share. He had thrown his sister’s favorite toy out the window. He also played a trick on his sleeping grandfather. The priest maintained his composure despite the humorous nature.

He assigned just three prayers as forgiveness for these acts. Tommy felt relieved and quite pleased with himself afterward. His grandmother met him outside with an encouraging smile. She wanted to know about his experience in the confessional.

The boy announced that it had been surprisingly easy for him. However, he expressed doubt about the priest’s knowledge. He suspected the man didn’t know about all his various misdeeds. This charming story shows a child’s literal understanding of faith.
