Tragic Death of ‘Tiger King’ Associate Ryan Easley After Tiger Attack at Oklahoma Preserve

A devastating incident occurred at the Growler Pines Tiger Preserve in Hugo, Oklahoma, when Ryan Easley, a 37-year-old animal handler linked to “Tiger King” star Joe Exotic, was fatally mauled by a tiger during a live performance on September 20, 2025. The terrifying event unfolded in front of an audience, including Easley’s wife and young daughter, leaving witnesses deeply traumatized.

Choctaw County Sheriff Terry Park reported that Easley had been performing alongside a tiger he had raised since it was a cub. Toward the end of the show, the tiger unexpectedly attacked, biting Easley around the neck and shoulder. The injuries resulted in instant death. Easley’s wife bravely entered the enclosure to move the tiger away after the attack.

Emergency services arrived promptly but Easley was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was transported to the state Medical Examiner’s Office in Tulsa for autopsy.
The Grindler Pines Preserve mourned Easley’s loss in a statement highlighting his dedication to wildlife conservation and his deep bond with the animals he cared for. Easley was known for his traveling circus-style act and had a history connected to Joe Exotic’s Oklahoma zoo.
Authorities, including the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation, have launched investigations into the attack. The tiger remains confined pending outcomes of the probe.

Animal welfare advocates voiced concern about the dangers and ethical issues related to using wild animals in entertainment. PETA criticized Easley’s practices citing long-standing controversies over big cat performances.

The sudden loss has sent shockwaves through the community and fans, bringing into sharp focus the risks of working closely with apex predators despite a passion for conservation and education.
